  The high-speed electric trains connecting the heart of Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi airport will be officially operational in the next three months, according to the Prime Minister.

  Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, stated during his weekly talk show” Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit”, that the Airport Rail Link could start its commercial service in three months with a maximum fare of approximately 150 baht. He said the fare was deemed as very low for a 15 minute ride on the 28 kilometre long route. (More …)

  The 3G network system must benefit the society, putting the nation’s interest at heart , says Former Head of the Committee of Community Radio Operations Colonel Nattee Sukolrat.

  After resigning from the Radio and Television Committee yesterday to take the new post of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) along with Associate Professor Pana Thongmeeakom former head of the Cable Television Committee, the main task at hand for the NTC is to ensure that the set-up process and launching of 3G runs smoothly.   New campaign brings researchers and entrepreneurs together 

  Technology Management Center (TMC) announces the Lab to Market (L2M) project to support the conversion of technological ideas into products.

  Ms Chachanart Thebtaranonth, Executive Director of TMC, said that most of the ideas and inventions created reached a dead end when the research was finished to a certain point. This project will help create funds from our ideas to further fuel our research. (More …)

  BMA, Microsoft to arrange ‘Multipoint’ training program

  The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Microsoft Thailand will organize ‘Microsoft Windows Multipoint’, a training program for teachers in Bangkok to enhance computer literacy among students.

  According to Deputy Bangkok Governor, Taya Teepsuwan, the training program will be arranged as a part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the BMA and Microsoft Thailand for better computer education in schools under the BMA. The projects aim is to increase the potential in computer education and to reduce the educational gap among schools. (More …)

  Thai nuclear power needs govt support

  The policy on nuclear power plants in Thailand must be imposed at a national level, driven both by the government and parliament, said Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Governor, Sombat Sarntijaree.

  Mr Sombat said the EGAT had set plans to generate 2,000 megawatts of electricity from coal and nuclear power each. However, the production of electricity from coal was costly as it caused carbon emissions. If the nation was to generate electricity from coal it must use carbon capture and sequestration technologies to tackle the emissions and also bring the production cost of coal electricity to 2.50 baht per unit, the governor said.   Telecommunication problems on the rise 

  Major mobile service providers including TOT, DTAC and AIS host a meeting along with consumer protection institutes to discuss consumer problems.

  Consumer problems and complaints included topics on the distribution of fake sims, sms spamming, limited time usage on prepaid numbers, and lack of signal strength in some areas were discussed at the meeting.

  Another problem that was of great concern was mobile phone towers that failed to meet the standards issued by the National Telecommunications Commission. Residents living near the towers experienced violent electrical appliance and circuit breaker explosions during rain and storms. Other residents feared health issues involving fatigue and reduction of mental concentration due to electro-magnetic radiation emissions from the towers. (More …)

  Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology scheduled to attend FNCA in Japan 

  The Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) will attend the 10th Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) during 15-16 December 2009 in Tokyo, Japan. The participation is aimed at acquiring knowledge in building nuclear power plants in Thailand.

  Dr Somporn Jongkam, the Director of TINT stated that the management of TINT was scheduled to participate in the 10th Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia which would be held by the Atomic Energy Commission of Japan. The forum was aimed at cooperation and exchanging views in nuclear power implementation among countries in Asia.   Better online marketing skills for Ko Chang 

  The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) arranges an online marketing training program for Ko Chang tourism entrepreneurs in Trat province.

  TAT information technology department director Phanom Kaributra said that the training would help local entrepreneurs expand their businesses as there was a growing potential in the Trat tourism market, according to a TAT marketing research.   ICT confirms to proceed with 3G mobile system

  ICT affirmed to implement 3G mobile phone business and it would not involve license issuing from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

  Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Sub. Lt. Ranongrak Suwunchwee, said about the implementation of 3G business by TOT public Co., Ltd. that it was subject to the Ministry’s management. The service would start on 3 December 2009 in Bangkok and nearby provinces with 548 stations. The 2nd phase was on process with a budget of 20,000 million THB. A business plan would be drawn to be proposed to the Cabinet accordingly. By the end of this year the 3G network would be open to bids from the private sector. (More …)
