  Cultural capital for creative economy project to be held every month next year 

  The Director-General of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), indicated that OCAC had formulated an action plan for the Cultural Capital of the Creative Economy project as 12 Months, 12 Events, 12 Sites which would be held in all five regions across the country.

  The Director-General of OCAC, Prisana Pongtadsirikul said that the project was aimed to disseminate the cultural contemporary arts such as visual art, sculpture, performing art, musical, literature, architecture, decorative art, to be participated by the national artists, and local artists in each area to raise cultural awareness among children and the general public.   Website for masks to be launched internationally 

  Thailand along with 29 countries will create a website about masks so that the world can learn about the cultural uniqueness of different countries.

  Culture Minister Teera Slukpetch presided over the 2009 International Mask Arts and Culture Organization (IMACO) International Conference, held by the Ministry of Culture, with an aim to create networks between the participating countries and enable understanding of each culture. (More …)

  Curtain rises on the 7th Bangkok Film Festival, 24 to 30 September.

  Now in its seventh year the curtain will rise on the annual Bangkok Film Festival, 24 to 30 September, in the heart of Bangkok’s downtown swank shopping district. The spectacular event promises to deliver more than 80 exciting films with the focus on a new generation of film makers particularly from throughout Asia.

  Swan Boat Races

  Teams compete for prizes in the 21st annual swan boat races at the Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Craft Centre, 19 to 20 September.

  Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre, Ayutthaya province, is worth visiting any time of the year, but it has a special fascination for visitors in September, when the riverside complex hosts the annual international swan boat races.

  Now in its 21st year, the dates were changed this year to 19 to 20 September moving back a week from its usual mid-month slot. But it still promises to be a tough, contested, series of races with nine international teams, mainly from around Asia, vying for the annual trophy. (More …)

    This year the tourism industry of Thailand has been hurt by all sorts of bad publicity, causing tourists to lose confidence in traveling safely to Thailand. To counteract this false perception of Thailand, the TAT has launched “The Ultimate Thailand Explorers” event to create positive awareness of Thailand and inspiration for worldwide tourists to travel here, particularly through the use of the internet and web blogs, which influence tourists the most.

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand therefore invites all interested parties to attend a press conference for “The Ultimate Thailand Explorers” project launch on Monday, September 14 from 14:00 to 16:00 in Lotus Suite 5-7, Centara Grand at Central World. This event is an exciting integrated online travel competition that will promote various Thailand destinations through various social and travel related websites.

  Muay Thai studies proving successful for graduates, postgraduates

  Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, has become increasingly popular overseas. As a degree is required for those who want to become a Muay Thai trainer abroad, the ‘Muay Thai Study’ programme was set up in Ratchaburi province west of Bangkok, ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate level.

  Muay Thai Study and Thai Traditional Medicine College, Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University is the first in Thailand to offer Muay Thai Study courses, from a Bachelor’s degree to PhD levels.

  The successful programmes have drawn much attention from foreigners. Current Pakistani ambassador to Thailand, Ahmed Amjad Ali, and his family recently visited the College to check out the programme. (More …)
