Phuket King’s Regatta
Asia’s biggest and most popular regatta, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, is in its 2nd day of racing today with a fleet of 111 boats across 11 divisions.
All fleets will converge at the Ko Kaeo Noi first gate before leaving for Ko Hi and Ko Aso islands. They will head back through two gates and then finish at Nai Harn Beach.
The race is held for 5 days, with the last day coinciding with HM the King’s 82nd birthday anniversary on 5 December.
Athletes representing 33 nations will attend this year’s competition and it will attract 2,000 visitors. (More …)

Thailand thus far has been included in many surveys and rankings conducted by various international organizations. Some of the released results can indeed bring fame to the nation in different areas despite the ongoing political instability and persisting street protests. However, some rankings have tarnished the national image and have warned the responsible authorities to fix the problem to put the country back on track.
In the beginning of June, the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy Co. Ltd (PERC) ranked Thailand third place in regards to efficiency of the public sector system in Asia, after Singapore and Hong Kong. Then, at the beginning of November, Thailand was ranked second for the world’s best value destination by the Lonely Planet in its ‘Best In Travel 2010’ guide as one of the cheapest long haul holidays for European tourists. At the end of November, Thailand won top honors in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2009 in several categories including the Top 100 list of hotels. (More …)
The Acting Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) indicated that Thailand and Poland are promoting bilateral trade expansion by making Thailand as the gateway for Polish products to be distributed throughout Asia.
Acting Director-General of DEP, Srirat Ratthapana, said after a discussion between Thailand and Poland that there was room for trade expansion between the two countries. Both sides agreed to have a joint investment in diverse aspects to add value to trade. Poland was particularly interested to make Thailand the production base and gateway to distribute products to other markets in Asia. (More …)

The International Fishing Cup Tournament Asia kicked off on Friday in Ko Chang, Trat province. 15 fishing teams from Asian countries including Thailand have signed up for the competition.
Major General Jaraspim Therarak, the manager of the Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), yesterday presided over the opening ceremony of Ko Chang International Fishing Cup Tournament Asia at Bang Bao pier on the island. The event is jointly organized by the International Fishing Angler’s Associate, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Trat Tourism Business Association. Thailand ranks 10th in Asia and ends with 84th in the world, in this year’s corruption perceptions index released by Transparency Thailand.
Thailand, El Salvador, Kuatemala, India and Panama scored 3.4 out of 10 points in the ranking. Corruption Perceptions Index measures the perceived level of public- sector corruption in 180 countries. A higher score means less corruption. The ranking was based on surveys from 10 pollsters. (More …)
The Khao Khiao Open Zoo in Chon Buri has come up with measures to keep the animals warm in the upcoming cool spell.
Khao Khiao Open Zoo’s Director Mr Apidet Singhaseni said the zoo had prepared the spotlights as well as hay and dry leaves to cover the ground to prevent the animals from sicknesses from cold weather. The Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) will attend the 10th Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) during 15-16 December 2009 in Tokyo, Japan. The participation is aimed at acquiring knowledge in building nuclear power plants in Thailand.
Dr Somporn Jongkam, the Director of TINT stated that the management of TINT was scheduled to participate in the 10th Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia which would be held by the Atomic Energy Commission of Japan. The forum was aimed at cooperation and exchanging views in nuclear power implementation among countries in Asia. In the 8th Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC 21), Asia’s eight key cities signed the “Bangkok Declaration” in a bid to eliminate the 2009 flu pandemic and to promote tourism in a sustainable manner.
