  The World Heritage Committee expressed concerns for Ayutthaya, a Thai registered world heritage site, which could be removed from the UNESCO list.

  The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Culture and a World Heritage Committee member, Ms Somsuda Leeyawanit said the deterioration and heavy encroachment in the area of Ayutthaya World Heritage site were against the criteria of UNESCO and might cause Ayutthaya to be removed from the World Heritage list.   ASEAN National Secretariat is in cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to launch the last ASEAN event before passing the chairmanship to Vietnam on 1 January 2010.

  Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Wittawat Sriwihok today chaired a press conference on the launch of ASEAN Music and Culture Festival in a bid to promote the unity among 10 ASEAN countries via each country’s remarkable cultures and music.   Cultural capital for creative economy project to be held every month next year 

  The Director-General of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), indicated that OCAC had formulated an action plan for the Cultural Capital of the Creative Economy project as 12 Months, 12 Events, 12 Sites which would be held in all five regions across the country.

  The Director-General of OCAC, Prisana Pongtadsirikul said that the project was aimed to disseminate the cultural contemporary arts such as visual art, sculpture, performing art, musical, literature, architecture, decorative art, to be participated by the national artists, and local artists in each area to raise cultural awareness among children and the general public.   The international mask dance was put on today’s show at the 2009 International mask conference which is being held at the Thailand Cultural Center.

  Website for masks to be launched internationally 

  Thailand along with 29 countries will create a website about masks so that the world can learn about the cultural uniqueness of different countries.

  Culture Minister Teera Slukpetch presided over the 2009 International Mask Arts and Culture Organization (IMACO) International Conference, held by the Ministry of Culture, with an aim to create networks between the participating countries and enable understanding of each culture. (More …)

  Thailand and Laos are joining forces to push Chiangsaen – Suwan Khom Kham as a world heritage site and preparing for cultural cooperation to strengthen relations between the two counties.

  Mr. Teera Slakphetch, Minister of Culture revealed outcome of the meeting on cultural cooperation with Mr. Munkaew Orlamun , Minister of Publication and Culture of Lao PDR during his official visit to Laos on 15-17 October 2009. (More …)

  TAT, CCTV to launch ‘Travel around Asia in Thailand’ tourism documentary 

  

  The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has cooperated with the China Central Television (CCTV) to launch ‘Travel around Asia in Thailand’ to promote tourism in Thailand via this documentary.

  After discussions about a Thailand-China collaboration, Chinese Counsellor Lu Jian and TAT Chairperson Weerasak Kowsurat stated that the CCTV, which was airing programs to more than 1,200 Chinese people, would produce a tourism documentary to publicize asian tourist attractions and people’s ways of life.   Major Cineplex publicizes movie rating 

  

  Major Cineplex Group publicizes movie ratings after it has been in effect since August 12.

  According to a ministerial announcement issued in accordance with the Movie and Video Act 2007, the Culture Ministry requires cinema and theaters to restrict audience viewing according to ratings, which has seven levels:

  • Rate 1 is for the movie, which is promoted for learning and watching.
  • Rate 2 is for general people.
  • Rate 3 is suitable for at least 13-year-old audience
  • Rate 4 is suitable for at least 15-year-old
  • Rate 5 is suitable for at least 18-year-old
  • Rate 6 is suitable for at least 20-year-old
  • Rate 7 is prohibited to be on screen in the country. (More …)
