The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka in cooperation with the Thai Trade Centre in Dhaka, Thai Airways International and the Tourism Authority of Thailand organized the 3-day Destination Thailand Fair 2009 during 16-18 July 2009 on the Royal Thai Embassy’s premises to promote Thailand and Thai tourism.
Among the participants were stalls of airlines which operate flights to Bangkok, travel agents and leading Thai international hospitals which many Bangladeshi people regularly visit to offer special deals on tickets and holiday and medical packages in Thailand. Travelers could then apply for free tourist and medical visas on the spot under the same roof. Besides, there were Thai cultural shows brought to Bangladesh by the Tourism Authority of Thailand 3 times each day, Thai food offered by Thai chefs working in Dhaka and Thai fruits by courtesy of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives of Thailand. The Phuket Tourist Association will organize the ‘Andaman Travel Festival’ in late November to stimulate tourism in three provinces in the Andaman Sea region, including Phuket, Phan-nga and Krabi.
Phuket Tourist Association President Somboon Chirayus said the event would be in cooperation of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) and the Phuket Provincial Authority Organization (PAO) as well as tourism associations. Bangkok Film Festival 2009
Curtain rises on the 7th Bangkok Film Festival, 24 to 30 September.
Now in its seventh year the curtain will rise on the annual Bangkok Film Festival, 24 to 30 September, in the heart of Bangkok’s downtown swank shopping district. The spectacular event promises to deliver more than 80 exciting films with the focus on a new generation of film makers particularly from throughout Asia.
The event is co-hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand, with the gala opening set in the forecourt of the upscale Central World shopping mall. (More …)

Australian Society of Travel Writers
Up to 250 of Australia’s leading travel writers will descend upon Thailand between 21-23 August, 2009, for their annual general meeting and awards night, expected to be the largest off-shore event for the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW) since its inception in 1975.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting the ASTW’s AGM, which will include three days in Bangkok, and a series of six post-conference tours to different parts of Thailand.
TAT will host a Gala Dinner for the ASTW members on 22 August, 2009, at the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Center @ Central World. The event will include a Thai musical and classical dance show as well as the presentation of awards for outstanding Australian travel writers, photographers, travel media organizations, and industry communicators.
Thailand last hosted the Society’s AGM in 1999. (More …)

Day-long train trips from Bangkok to tourist destinations
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has teamed up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and related agencies to offer economical day-long train trips from Bangkok to tourist destinations in three neighbouring provinces over the next three months.
On August 15, 22 and 29, there will be special trains departing Bangkok taking travellers to Chachoengsao and back the same days; on September 5, 12, 19 and 26, similar service is available to Saraburi; and to Lop Buri on October 3, 10, 14, 24 and 31.
Tickets, priced at 999 baht per person on all routes, cover train travel by third class, food, transportation, tour guide, insurance fees and admission to various attractions on the itinerary. (More …)

In a bid to strengthen Thailand’s flagship tourism industry, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Tourism Technology Association (TTA) are urging local tourism businesses to adopt the latest technologies, ranging from use of the Internet to Web 2.0, social networking and digital marketing.
The two organisations believe technology could give tourism businesses greater capabilities and competitiveness in the current challenging situation brought about by the economic downturn and the type-A (H1N1) influenza pandemic. (More …)

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has cooperated with the China Central Television (CCTV) to launch ‘Travel around Asia in Thailand’ to promote tourism in Thailand via this documentary.
After discussions about a Thailand-China collaboration, Chinese Counsellor Lu Jian and TAT Chairperson Weerasak Kowsurat stated that the CCTV, which was airing programs to more than 1,200 Chinese people, would produce a tourism documentary to publicize asian tourist attractions and people’s ways of life.
